WHAT HAPPENED?
It was another disappointing night for United fans as their slim chance of advancing to the Champions League last-16 was dashed by a 1-0 defeat to the Bavarian giants at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag's team needed a victory against Bayern and hoped for a draw in Copenhagen's match against Galatasaray to secure progression. Unfortunately, neither scenario unfolded as Kingsley Coman scored for Bayern in the 70th minute to remain unbeaten in Group A with 16 points.
The away fans celebrated the victory by singing "Football's Coming Home", a song which is regarded as the fan anthem for England supporters.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
United might need to do some soul-searching after they were eliminated prematurely from Europe. They have already exited the Carabao Cup and finishing bottom in the group did not help their cause for a Europa League berth as well. They have lost 12 matches out of 24 this season across all competitions and have shipped in a whopping 15 goals in the Champions League group stage which is the most by an English top-flight side in the history of the competition in the round-robin stage.

WHAT NEXT?
Ten Hag might need to go back to the drawing board to revive United's fortunes who have lost two matches in a row, having been defeated by Bournemouth at the weekend. However, there is little time for a complete reboot as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday.
